The story behind the plaque

In this invented story, the Old Bridge began with a promise: no neighbour should have to wait for low water to reach the market. In 1846, fictional mason Eamon Thistledown set the first arch with stone from the hillside. His apprentice, Nessa Alderwick, carved a tiny leaf beneath the parapet to mark the final day of work. The cast plaque came later, remembering the hands that built the crossing. The leaf remains the smallest detail in a much-loved town story.
